Goal
of the Project:
To
create public opinion, public awareness and to raise Saontal voice for
the sustainable environment, empowerment and human rights of the Saontal
community through ensuring the active involvement of the Saontal
representatives in the mainstream journalism and by introducing
community based active journalism.
Short-term
Objectives:
The
short-term objectives of the project are given below:
-
To
make 30 Saontal male and female prepared for the journalism
profession through providing proper long-term training following
right method and module.
-
To
conduct advocacy and lobbying with the media owners for the purpose
of creating scope for unprivileged Saontal male and female of
working as journalists in the print and electronic media and to
provide proper treatment and coverage to the minority interest
related news items in the leading news media.

To
encourage and inspire the journalists to focus on the picture of
torture, exploitation, and harassment and at the same time their
indigenous knowledge, art, culture and traditional glory of the
Saontal through publishing real fact in the leading newspapers.

To
create an easy pavement for the trained up Saontal male and female
of working in the local, regional or national newspapers, so that
they can establish themselves as potential journalists through their
own skill and capacity.

To
introduce and flourish the trend of community based active
journalism in Bangladesh and thus to publish community magazine and
e-bulletin.

To
develop web site and to broadcast radio talk shows for the purpose
of orienting the majority people and the policy makers with the
indigenous knowledge, art, culture, historical background,
socio-economic condition, exploitation and sufferings of the Saontal
and other minority people.

To
initiate award giving system to encourage the journalists and the
media institutions in playing pioneer role for the development,
empowerment and human rights of the Saontal.
Long-term Objective:
-
To
take necessary initiatives and implement the programs to ensure the
participation of the minority people in such creative, intellectual
and powerful profession like journalism.

To

participation of the minority people in the mainstream journalism.

To
take initiative in changing the attitude and outlook of the media
owners in respect of treatment and coverage of minority interest
related issues.

To
take initiative in introducing and flourishing the trend of
community based active journalism for the development, empowerment
and human rights of the Saontal.

To
assist in raising the voice of the Saontal for their development,
empowerment and human rights through utilizing the media and
communication means effectively.

To
set up agenda of development, empowerment and human rights of the
Saontal through focusing on their socio-economic condition,
oppression and sufferings in the national and international level.

To
lobby to include the development, empowerment and human rights
issues of the Saontal in the national policy through media campaign
and media advocacy.
-
To
conduct media advocacy to inspire the Government and the donor
agencies for taking balanced and sustainable program for the
development of the Saontal.

To
improve their community mobilization and indigenous knowledge, art,
culture and traditional glory through proper utilization of press
and mass media.

To
create awareness among the Saontal about the contemporary social
issues like gender, HIV/AIDS, environment, sustainable development,
good governance, human rights etc. through ensuring the effective
use of community based active journalism.

To
flourish the capacity of the Saontal of taking decision in respect
of development process, policy making and political activities.
